Getting Started
The 2006/2007 program includes some new database titles, including
Gale's Virtual Reference Library (GVRL). Each library has selected
10 ebooks to include in their GVRL collection. These can be combined
with periodical titles in ways that offer users a subject guided
approach to information discovery and research.
Many of the databases included in this year's CALIFA program are
already available at your libraries; no changes are required for
the links already deployed. Here, however, is a list of
the
basic URL structure (please note corrected GRR link format)
for each DB in the program collection.

PowerSearch and Cross-searching Collections
This year's program introduces two new features to the collection:
Gale ebooks (GVRL) and PowerSearch. PowerSearch allows users to
cross search Gale periodical and ebook content, and provides many
new features to the search interface. Providing access to this new
functionality can be done in two ways:
| 1. guide users to the
new common menu letting them choose
they want to search |
| 2. guide users directly to the
search dialog using pre-selected
titles |
There are variations on these two schemes that will be discussed
further in our
webinars.
Ebooks and Sub-collections
Your Gale ebook collection can be broken out into sub-collections.
These sub-collections are then treated like any other Gale database
in your subscription, and can be combined with other Gale databases
using PowerSearch. This provides you with an ability to create electronic
collections for specific user groups or subject areas. More on how
to create sub-collections will be offered in our
webinars.
